Kenya: Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA)
Since January 2024 visitors to Kenya no longer buy a visa. Most travellers apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) instead. Kenya's own guidance says the eTA does not decide whether you are admissible, because immigration officers make that call on arrival.
Who needs it
All foreign visitors, including infants and children, except citizens of East African Community states.
Key facts
- Apply at least 3 days before travel. Applications can be made up to 3 months ahead.
- Once issued, the eTA is valid for 90 days and for a single entry.
- You need a passport valid for six months after arrival with at least one blank page, a photo or selfie, and your travel details.
- Apply only on the official site or the Kenya Travel Authorisation app, with one application per person.
Watch out for
Search ads and lookalike sites target the eTA. Because Kenya says applications must be completed only through its official site or app, a paid go-between is unnecessary.
Before you pay
Check that the address matches the link above, confirm the amount on the portal, and never pay a site that adds a large service fee. Our guide to spotting fake visa websites explains the warning signs, and the FAQ covers common questions.
This page is a summary for general information and can go out of date, and exemptions depend on your own nationality, so always confirm on the official portal. See our disclaimer.
