Indonesia: e-VOA (electronic visa on arrival)
Indonesia's electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA) lets eligible visitors pay for entry online before they fly, instead of queueing at the airport. It is issued through the Directorate General of Immigration's own portal.
Who needs it
Nationals of the eligible countries the portal lists, entering through one of the airports, seaports or land borders it covers. Citizens of ASEAN member states generally do not need any visa for short tourist stays.
Key facts
- It is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days at a local immigration office.
- The e-VOA validity window (the time you have to enter the country) runs from the date you buy it, and is separate from the length of your stay once you arrive.
- Travellers flying directly into Bali also pay a separate Bali Tourist Levy through a different official site.
- One application per traveller, including anyone travelling with you.
Watch out for
Indonesian immigration has publicly warned about unofficial sites that charge well above the government rate. A private company, VFS Global, is also an authorised but non-government channel that adds its own fee on top, so check whether you are on the government portal or a paid agent before paying.
Before you pay
Check that the address matches the link above, confirm the amount on the portal, and never pay a site that adds a large service fee. Our guide to spotting fake visa websites explains the warning signs, and the FAQ covers common questions.
This page is a summary for general information and can go out of date, and exemptions depend on your own nationality, so always confirm on the official portal. See our disclaimer.
