Brazil: e-Visa (US, Canada and Australia citizens)
Since 10 April 2025, nationals of the United States, Canada and Australia need a visa to enter Brazil, applied for online as an e-Visa. Brazil reinstated the requirement on a reciprocity basis after several delays.
Who needs it
US, Canadian and Australian passport holders specifically. Most other nationalities, including the UK and most EU countries, remain visa-free for short tourist visits; always check your own passport's status.
Key facts
- Processing typically takes 2 to 5 working days, though longer delays have been reported since relaunch.
- The e-visa is valid for 10 years for US citizens and 5 years for Canadian and Australian citizens, with multiple entries and a maximum 90-day stay per visit.
- A passport renewal after getting the e-visa invalidates it; you need a new one for the new passport.
- If you already hold a valid physical visa for your trip's purpose, you do not need a new e-visa.
Watch out for
Apply only through the government-authorised portal. Given how recently and repeatedly this requirement changed, some older guides and unofficial sites may still show outdated information or the pre-2025 fee.
Before you pay
Check that the address matches the link above, confirm the amount on the portal, and never pay a site that adds a large service fee. Our guide to spotting fake visa websites explains the warning signs, and the FAQ covers common questions.
